fairytales
Aug. 20th, 2019 10:25 amIf you want a book that makes you celebrate the joy of finding adulthood, the fantasy of Hollywood, and the reality of life ... get your hands on Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour. It's utterly beautiful and has made my cry in public multiple times.
Emmy Price is a kid of genius and luck and privilege. Her older brother, Toby, got her a job as an unpaid intern in the art department of a movie when she was 16 and she has moved her way up to ... paid intern two years later. She has the chance to design a room where a pivotal scene in a movie takes place and she is determined, damned determined to find a perfect couch. The perfect couch. While her boss ransacks an estate sale following the death of a major star, Emmy and her best friend Charlotte (who is also a paid intern on this movie), she comes across a record and takes it home for herself. While she and Charlotte listen to the heart break on the vinyl, they discover a letter from the star ... a letter that leads them down a road to find Ava, his long lost granddaughter.
Hijinks ensue.
This is one of the most beautiful stories I have ever had the joy of reading.
The next time I feel like my fairytale stories of actors and musicians and writers are just too much ... I'm going to come back to this beautiful creation. I'm going to hold it tight to my heart.
